Sandstone cleaning and sealing in Kingsford
Kingsford sandstone ranges from busy restaurant frontages to family house fences. We remove grease, grime and growth gently and seal surfaces that take heavy use.

Kingsford enquiries usually fall into three groups. Owners corporations want unit block entries and paths cleaned, often after years of foot traffic, bins and the odd previous pressure wash. Businesses along Anzac Parade want frontage paving degreased and gum removed. Homeowners in the side streets want sandstone fences, piers and steps brought back from grey. Each group has its own mix of contaminants, so we test a small area of each surface before quoting. For strata jobs, the scope separates cleaning, stain removal and sealing so the committee can approve them together or in stages, and photographs show each surface before work begins.
Grease is lifted with a degreaser suited to sandstone and, where it has soaked deep, a poultice left overnight to draw out the oil. Traffic film responds to an alkaline detergent and soft rotary brushing, rinsed with warm water at gentle pressure. Green growth in shady corners gets a biocide and is left until it has fully died. Gum is softened and peeled away. Rust from gates and fixings is drawn out without acid. At no stage do we put a turbo tip on the stone. All wash water, and especially greasy run-off from food premises, is contained and vacuumed up.
Sealing is most useful on Kingsford's busiest surfaces: entry steps and paths in unit blocks, and frontage paving outside restaurants and shops. A breathable penetrating sealer keeps grease, spills and grime nearer the surface, so the daily sweep and weekly wash actually work. On house fences, we usually seal only the caps, where water and grime sit longest after rain. Committees and owners see sample patches first, and we record the product and date. On food premises, test the surface yearly with a splash of water and a dab of cooking oil; if either soaks in quickly, it is time to reseal.

Frequently asked questions
Sandstone questions we hear in Kingsford.
Can old grease be removed from restaurant sandstone?
Usually much of it, with degreasers and poultices. Very old, deep stains may lighten rather than disappear completely.
How often should a restaurant frontage be resealed?
Often every one to two years, depending on traffic and cleaning. A simple water-and-oil drop test shows when.
Will cleaning remove pressure-washer stripes on our fence?
Cleaning evens the colour but cannot replace eroded stone. The stripes become less noticeable as the stone weathers.
Do you seal entire sandstone fences?
Usually just the caps and any heavily stained areas. The vertical faces often stay healthier left open to breathe.
